Saunas, Storks, Snails (and Soviet Garages)

I awakened early the next morning and went on a walk. Right behind our hotel were seemingly endless rows of old low buildings with old garage doors. Inga had told me that during Soviet times the Soviets confiscated all private property – cars, houses, land. Everything became state property. The cars were put into these Russian garages and people would “sign-them-out”.

I turned another direction and here came Jordan, returning from his walk, the rising sun and the rising Son shining on his face. He said, “It is such a privilege to be ministering in Latvia together.” We have always been close but neither of us dreamed we would ever get to minister together like this. I was treasuring every moment.

I then walked down the trail and saw what looked like a seashell lying on the wooded path. I was about to pick it up when I realized it was occupied. Probably the largest snail I have ever come upon in the woods!

There are so many unusual things to experience. As we drove through the city, I saw a strange looking hut with a chimney on the back of a truck. It was a portable sauna! Some people take it to the beach with them. Later that day I saw another stork and its nest. The large  birds are very beautiful and common in Latvia. Their giant nests are generally perched right at the top of telephone poles, only they are much wider than the pole!
